Long Break

I am back after a long winter/holiday break. It has been really nice to focus on my day job for a little while, but I am ready to get back to some jewelry making! I am excited to be vending this coming Thursday at Art & Flea at Fresh Cafe. Should be a lot of fun, hope to see you there!

Windproofing 101 or The Indestructible Craft Fair Display

After last week’s wind debacle (you can read all about it HERE) I was seriously nervous about setting up shop again at an outdoor venue. The wind last week forced me to close up shop early, and the gale force gusts … Continue reading

Time For Myself

As I am heading into my last Holiday sale of the season (uh-hem… Art and Flea tonight!) I find myself looking forward to business winding down a bit. The other day I was so stressed out looking around my home, and the mess that had accumulated within it. Even though I had a ton of work to do, I decided to prioritize myself… just for one day. Josh and I cleaned the house, did laundry and the next morning I woke up early and did some yoga! It was glorious. I have a subscription to My Yoga Online Video and it has been a lifesaver during busy periods of my life.

In the end I was so happy that I took some time for myself, and because I did the work I had to do didn’t seem as daunting. Just a reminder to all who are feeling a little overwhelmed this Holiday to take a little time out for yourself. It may not all get done, but you will thank yourself in the long run!

Update: Design Sponge’s The Biz Ladies wrote a really wonderful article on Staying Sane This Holiday Season. I highly recommend it!

Art & Flea Ugly Sweater Party

Just a reminder that I will be one of the many venders at Art & Flea on Thursday, December 20th. Get your ugliest Christmas sweater and join me! There is going to be a raffle with $100 in prizes, a “shop till you drop” contest (read the extensive rules here), live music, a full bar, and most importantly +60 local crafters, designers, and vintage collectors selling their awesome stuff. This is the best place in Honolulu to get a truly special Christmas gift.

Come with the ugliest sweater you can find, and you just might win the ugly sweater contest! Good good luck and I will see you there!

You Win Some, You Lose Some

Holiday Sale in Thomas Square

As most of you know I had a booth at the Holiday Sale in Thomas Square this weekend… total bust. It was a beautiful day, nice and sunny but not too hot thanks to a nice breeze from the east gusts of up to 50 miles per hour. It was pretty much a disaster.

When I first got there I knew it was going to be a rough day. The wind was trying to pick up my tent, and the tarp that I was using to block the wind was acting as a sail. I spent most of the morning trying to figure out a way to display my jewelry without it blowing away. I quickly realized after the wind knocked my entire earring display into the dirt, that everything needed to be flat on the table. This made for a very boring display, and customers were walking by without a single glance at my table. Not good.

Flat on the table – Borrr-rrring!

Next I thought if I could secure some of my taller display pieces they could act as a wind block. I thought it might help to keep my jewelry on the table and hopefully attract some people to my tent. I duct taped the mirror to its stand and put a five-pound dumbbell on the back of it to keep it in place. This worked really well, so I tried the same thing with one of my necklace displays on top of a box.

As perfect as it’s gonna get!

This is what my display looked like moments before a gust of wind picked everything (even the five-pound weights) and flung it across the park. I can’t make this stuff up, the wind was unreal. After three hours of battling the wind, I declared it the winner and headed home. It was a rough one but I was not upset. I had a really great sale last week and besides, you can’t win them all.

Announcement!

Another reason I can’t really be too upset over the sale is… drum roll please… I am engaged! My wonderful boyfriend Josh asked me to marry him earlier this week. I am so happy that it makes it really hard to get upset about, well, anything!
